Registered & Genetic tested Bernese Mountain dog.

Tova is our 5yr old Bernese Mountain Dog. She is truly the prettiest Bernese Mountain Dog we have ever personally seen. While she is Aunt and Great Aunt to nearly all of our dogs, we have elected not to breed this beautiful girl directly. She was born with hernia, which could be attributed to an injury in the umbilical cord as a puppy or possibly a genetic reason. It is fairly common in the breed, however it makes breeding a high risk affair. We have opted not to risk her health by breeding her. She is a high energy dog, who we thought would make an excellent Live stock guardian dog, however we find that she is too highly focused on humans for the task. She absolutely loves swimming and fetching and is a very loyal dog. She has never run from the farm and has rarely been leashed. She does well with other dogs, but does tend to take the dominate position in the pack, although time has mellowed her into a more utilitarian dog, content to be a peace keeper. She is highly food oriented, and although we often will take on training for service dog work, her strong distraction for food and her occasional stubbornness make her a possible hard fit for the role. She however has shown strong aptitude for scent work and search and rescue work. Originally trained as an (LGD) her strong prey drive made her unable to guard small livestock. She is cautious with strangers at first but is loyal once she gets comfortable. She is intelligent and knows basic commands. An ideal home would be someone involved in AKC agility, 4h, scent work, hunting, and/or dock diving or a runner or active family. She would do best in a household as an only dog or with a male dog due to her dominate temperament around female dogs her same size especially. Although we have not noticed much of this behavior of dominance pushing as of late. But our preference would be for her to have a male dog or be the only dog due to protectiveness over food and possibly due to not having yet been spayed. She is not currently being adopted with breeding rights. We are very sad to see her go, but we believe she will thrive in a home where she is the prized and spoiled dog of the family. Due to the nature of our breeding program, while Tova has a wonderful life her, swimming many days a week, and running on 30 acres with her pack, she would do best as an indoor dog( she has always been an indoor do) lying constantly beside her family. You will have one of the smartest and most beautiful dogs in the breed.
